Once over the bridge, travel several miles and take exit 14A for the Garden State Parkway South (only direction is south since this is the northern terminus for the Parkway). Just over the border in NY, you will exit for I-287W towards the Tappan Zee Bridge. Since I consider driving a sport, I opt for this route almost every time :) However, I would suggest you continue on I-95 until the CT/NY border. Link up to I-91 in Hartford and run straight to I-95.Īt this point, you'll need to decide if you have the guts enough to drive the Cross Bronx Expy to the George Washington Bridge. If your starting point is Boston proper, its best to head west on the Mass Pike to I-84 towards Hartford. That said, I live south of the city and usually head through RI to Route 6 which links up in CT to I-395 though to I-95. most major thoroughfares in NJ are toll roads. you need to cross the Hudson River (not free) and b). First and foremost, give up any notion of a toll-free drive - it just doesn't exist. I've done this drive from the Boston area for over 20 years.
